Biography
Marshall Lew is senior principal and vice president of MACTEC Engineering and Consulting, Inc., in Los Angeles, California. He has more than 30 years of professional experience in geotechnical and earthquake engineering and has been with MACTEC (and its predecessors, LeRoy Crandall and Associates and Law/Crandall) for more than 30 years. He has worked on the tallest buildings in Los Angeles, transportation projects, and more than 15 base-isolated buildings. Lew is president of the Southern California Chapter of EERI. He currently serves on the Earthquake Spectra Editorial Board. Lew recently completed 8 years of service as an appointed member of the Hospital Building Safety Board of the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. He is a member of the board of directors of the California Earthquake Safety Foundation. He has also been a member of various earthquake reconnaissance teams: he was co-leader of the geotechnical team for EERI’s investigation of the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989 and led the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council team following the 1999 Chi-Chi, Taiwan, earthquake.
