Why Join the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute?
- EERI is the principal national society in the U.S. for earthquake professionals. Types of Membership Available (Only the regular Active,Young Professional and Retired members get voting privileges)
Active Membership: Active members are individuals who are entitled to vote in the yearly election of Board of Directors, to hold office, to serve on committees, and to actively participate in the Institute.
Affiliate Membership: This category of membership is available only to those individuals in developing and less developed countries. Affiliate members have the same benefits and privileges as active members except for the right to vote. For information, please contact the Membership Coordinator.
Retired Membership: Applicants must have five or more years of EERI membership and be 65 or over.
Student Membership: Applicants must be full-time students with a valid interest in the objectives of the Institute.
E-Student Membership: (Reduced dues) Same requirement as a regular Student Membership, but students receive only electronic access to the Newsletter and Earthquake Spectra. Student members will not receive other publications unless the costs are underwritten by outside funding sources.
Young Professional Membership: Applicants must be employed for less than 5 years in their field.
Institutional Membership: This category provides an opportunity for libraries, universities, and private firms to receive a one-copy subscription to the same EERI publications that members receive, as well as reduced fees for one representative to attend Seminars, Annual Meetings, and Continuing Education Programs.
Subscribing Membership: EERI Subscribing Membership is an opportunity for companies to publicly demonstrate their
support for earthquake engineering and for the work that EERI is doing.
- EERI highlights the names of this select group in each issue of the prestigious quarterly technical journal, Earthquake Spectra and lists Subscribing Members in the Membership Roster, a virtual “Who’s Who” of Earthquake Engineering.
- EERI provides an exclusive opportunity for Subscribing Members to exhibit at the Annual Meeting free of charge and to receive exhibit space at all EERI specialty and national conferences at discounted fees.
- Subscribing Members are entitled to receive up to three copies of the monthly EERI Newsletter, the quarterly journal, Earthquake Spectra, the annual Membership Roster, and all other publications sent to members
- A Member Profile page for each Subscribing Member appears on EERI’s website: www.eeri.org, with an active link to the firm’s website, if desired. Upon joining, new Subscribing Members are featured in the EERI Newsletter, sent to nearly 2,400 members.
- Each new Subscribing Member is presented with an engraved perpetual plaque at the Annual Meeting, during a special reception held annually in recognition of Subscribing Members.
- Subscribing Members have the opportunity to run, free of charge, short announcements of job openings in the monthly EERI Newsletter, and receive early notification of student resumes posted on EERI’s website for potential employment.
- EERI's mailing list is now available to its Subscribing Members for a nominal fee. This mailing list can be used by Subscribing Members to announce products and services to the entire membership or a portion thereof, once each year.
- To enhance Subscribing Member visibility and maximize participation in programs of particular interest to them, EERI has developed three categories of Subscribing Membership. Gold ($10,000), Silver ($5,000) and Bronze ($3,000). Members at these levels have the option of directing their additional support (over and above the basic Subscribing Member dues) to Institute programs of particular interest to them, including political advocacy.
- The highest levels of Subscribing Members receive complimentary registrations to EERI Technical Seminars, based on level of membership. Bronze level members receive two free registrations, Silver level, three, and Gold level, five.
Associate Membership Information
For SSA Members
SSA members may conveniently and affordably associate with the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) under an agreement between the two organizations. SSA members who elect to associate with EERI will receive EERI's monthly newsletter, and special member rates for EERI meetings, conferences, publications, and audiovisual materials. Associates will be included in the EERI membership roster, receive a copy of the annual EERI membership roster, and have access to the searchable online membership roster on the EERI Web site. Dues for this special SSA association with EERI are only $50 per year and may be included with payments for SSA dues.
Those members of SSA seeking full benefits of EERI membership (including voting privileges, Earthquake Specta, and other publications such as reconnaissance reports, oral histories, monographs, and Endowment Fund reports) should retain their current EERI membership or seek to join EERI as a regular member (for more information see http://www.eeri.org/membership/join.html).
For EERI Members
Members of EERI are entitled to become EERI Associates of SSA for $50 annual dues. They receive Seismological Research Letters and member discounts for annual meetings, seminars, and publications. They are included in the SSA membership roster (published in SRL and have access to the searchable online membership roster on the SSA Web site. EERI members seeking full benefits of SSA membership, including voting privileges and BSSA, should retain their current SSA membership or seek to join the Society as a regular member. Dues for EERI associate membership with SSA should be included with payments for EERI dues.
EERI members who are current associates of SSA and wish to upgrade to full SSA membership may deduct $50 from their dues payment if paid during the same year. To take advantage of this offer when using the online membership application, please enter "EERI Upgrade" in the field that asks for the name of a current SSA member who recommended you.
