Rui Pinho is the winner of the 2007 Shah Family Innovation Prize
(awarded in 2008)

 

Rui Pinho accepts the 2008 Shah Family Innovation Prize at EERI's Annual MeetingThe Shah Family Innovation Prize Selection Committee awarded the 2007 prize to Dr. Rui Pinho in recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities, problem-solving capabilities, and entrepreneurship in defining and executing major programs leading to the reduction of earthquake risk. He has played a major role in the development of the Centre for Post-Graduate Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (the ROSE School ), which is widely recognized as a leading international training center in the field. It is part of the Institute for Advanced Study in Pavia, Italy.

Nearly 50 European partners participate in this major European assessment study focusing on risk mitigation for earthquakes and landslides. His leadership is having a significant impact on communities and regions in instituting regulations and policies to promote seismic safety. He is also co-founder and technical director of SeismoSoft , an enterprise that develops and distributes a free collection of structural analysis and signal processing programs that have been accessed by users in over 100 countries.
