New Madrid Time History Conference
From Wednesday, June 03 2009 -  8:00am
To Friday, June 05 2009 - 5:00pm

In support of the New Madrid Earthquake Scenario, the EERI New Madrid Chapter is developing a Shlemon Specialty Conference on Advancing New Madrid Region Time-History Determination, to be held June 3 - 5, 2009, in Memphis, Tennessee, with the support of the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Memphis' Center for Earthquake Research and Information. The conference concerns the most recent research and the methods needed to develop and use intraplate eartquake time histories, particularly in the central United States.

Abstracts for presentations or posters are due by April 30, 2009.  Authors are encouraged to present time histories for different central U.S. regional locations or cities. Intraplate seismicity, attenuation, spectra, and local site conditions pose difficult issues concerning unique central U.S. properties, methodologies, and their accuracies. Areas that play important roles in the developement of time histories include: local site investigation, hazard studies, regional studies of paleoliquefaction, faulting, tectonic movement and stress fields, velocity models and engineering seismology. Intraplate time-history issues impact the built environment of power plants, transportation and utility infrastructure, and business development and continuity. There are also implications for worldwide intraplate regions.

Registration and abstract submission information are available at www.aegweb.org , or by contacting Oliver Boyd or Greg Hempen .
