Major Duties:

Supports disaster operations by providing technical input and responses to building science information requests of Headquarters, Disaster Operations, Emergency Response Team and Disaster Field Offices, as assigned.  Also, supports disaster operations as a member of the Agency's Mitigation Assessment Team (MAT's) to perform post-disaster building performance studies including gathering field data and technical report writing.

Acts as project monitor in the development of new technical publications on natural hazards mitigation.  Helps to develop technical bulletins on various topics related to the flood resistant performance requirements contained in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) provisions.  Develops and maintains a knowledge base of building science publications and guidance-related NFIP building standards and other natural hazard codes and standards.

Serves as a point of contact and provides timely advice to Headquarters and Regional offices, other Federal Agencies, States, territories and local governments, associations and the private sector relating to building science activities.  Provides technical assistance to interpret NFIP-related building standards issues for various Mitigation Directorate elements as assigned by management.

Works with other Mitigation Directorate and FEMA elements to identify issues and potential building science needs related to hurricane resistant design and construction practices and hazard risk assessment.  Develops clear written descriptions of needs identified, and project descriptions for future guidance development and related work.
