EERI Response to M7.8 Earthquake in Ecuador on April 16, 2016

On Saturday, April 16, a M7.8 earthquake struck offshore of the west coast of northern Ecuador (11:58pm local time on Saturday, April 16). The EERI community extends its sympathy to the victims as rescue and relief work continues.

EERI is currently monitoring the situation from media reports and notes from colleagues in the impacted region as part of its Learning from Earthquakes Program.

EERI has launched a virtual earthquake clearinghouse website to archive earthquake data and post observations from this event.
