EERI Officially Supports NEHRP Reauthorization Bill

EERI’s Public Policy and Advocacy Committee, led by Laura Samant (M. EERI 2003), has been closely following activities in Washington D.C., and monitoring impacts on NEHRP agencies and seismic policy. Recent federal budget proposals have indicated significant cuts to programs associated with earthquake and tsunami risk reduction.

In response, EERI has taken an official position advocating for the reauthorization of NEHRP. In addition to a broader letter-writing campaign to both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees urging reconsideration of these budget reductions and outlining the benefits of these programs, EERI sent an official letter of support to Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office (D-CA) on August 21, 2017.

EERI members and partner organizations are encouraged to send similar letters using the language in EERI’s letter as a template.
