EERI’s Learning From Earthquakes (LFE) program continues to monitor the impacts of the M7.5 earthquake that struck just offshore of the Noto Peninsula in Japan at 4:10 PM local time on January 1, 2024. The LFE Executive Committee held a coordination call in early January and is consulting with Japanese colleagues involved in the response. LFE has created a Noto earthquake event page on the LFE website to collect information and resources. Resources available there now include earthquake reports, aerial footage of the damage, structure from motion models, and a World Housing Encyclopedia report on the single-family wooden house construction type that is common in Japan and representative of many of the buildings that suffered damage or collapse. LFE will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. To submit resources for the LFE page or information about reconnaissance efforts, please
