EERI is working to grow and strengthen a coalition that supports Reauthorization of the U.S. National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP).Through EERI's Public Policy and Advocacy Committee, EERI leadership has been working closely with American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), International Code Council (ICC), National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA), National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) and Seismological Society of America (SSA) to chart an advocacy path forward. In particular, the coalition is focused on continued movement of U.S. Senate Bill S.320, the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) Reauthorization Act of 2025, through the legislature. See the previous update here on EERI's advocacy in support of S.320.
On October 20, 2025, EERI and other members of the NEHRP Reauthorization Coalition, including ICC, NCSEA, SSA, ASCE, and NIBS, sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in support of adding S.320 to the Unanimous Consent Calendar.
