The EERI Public Policy and Advocacy (PPA) Committee is pleased to announce the publication of a new strategic EERI Federal and State Policy Priorities Communications Document for 2026, developed by PPA members Anna Lang and Jack English with input from the full committee throughout 2025 and formal approval by the EERI Board of Directors. This new resource distills EERI’s highest-impact earthquake policy needs into a concise, adaptable framework designed to support clear, consistent advocacy, and to streamline board approval processes.
The document is intended to guide engagement at both the federal and state levels, translating advances in earthquake science and engineering into actionable policy priorities. By clearly articulating where policy attention can have the greatest impact, the Strategic Policy Communications Document strengthens EERI’s ability to communicate effectively with policymakers, agency partners, and allied organizations, while reinforcing alignment across EERI committees and chapters.
Importantly, this is a living document. The PPA Committee will review and update it annually to reflect evolving policy needs, lessons learned, and advances in earthquake research and practice. While it supports EERI’s federal advocacy priorities, the document is also structured so state chapters can tailor it to local contexts, enabling chapters to advance their own earthquake resilience goals using a shared, nationally aligned policy foundation. The PPA looks forward to working with chapters and members to put this tool into action in the year ahead.
