EERI's 2019 Annual Meeting took place March 5-8 in Vancouver, Canada. The Institute welcomed more than 300 meeting attendees and 300 SDC participants representing a wide range of disciplines while sharing a common goal, reducing earthquake risk.
The technical program was built around the meeting theme, "Reaching Resilience Faster by Working Together". 4 plenary sessions, 17 special sessions, and 1 poster session took place during the meeting. Session topics included: Public Education, Emergency Preparedness, and Understanding Risk, Improving New and Existing Building Performance, Post-Earthquake Response and Recovery, Utilities and Infrastructure; including Geotechnical, Policy, Insurance and Funding Incentives, Resilience Plans, and New Technologies and Instrumentation.
The program also included an LFE Reconnaissance workshop, a FEMA P-2006 Workshop, a University of British Columbia lab tour, a bus tour of retrofitted schools, and a self-guided tour of notable structures in Vancouver. During this meeting, the Learning From Earthquakes Endowment Fund was also publicly announced.
