The San Salvador Earthquake of October 10, 1986. The M5.4 earthquake that struck the city of San Salvador, capital of El Salvador, caused 1,500 deaths, and 7,000 to 10,000 injuries. The event added approximately 100,000 people to a homeless population that already numbered in the hundreds of thousands due to a civil war.
