Design Classification of Horizontal and Vertical Ground Motion

This study seeks to provide processed data which will help the design engineer determine the earthquake ground motion that will drive a structure to its critical response. The data identifies the severity and damage potential of ground motions that are part of a database containing 1470 horizontal and 527 vertical components. The report presents the results of the continuation of research initiated in 1993 as part of Naeim's Professional Fellowship, which had been titled Classification and Evaluation of Earthquake Records for Design. August 1996, 427 pp.

Under a cooperative agreement established with FEMA, the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute awards annually -- since 1992 -- a professional fellowship to provide an opportunity for a practicing professional to gain greater skills and broader expertise in earthquake hazards reduction either by enhancing knowledge in the Fellow's own field, or by broadening his or her education in a related, but unfamiliar discipline. This unique fellowship is designed to bring together experienced practitioners with the academic professionals in order to broaden the research base with challenges faced in practice.
